Thanks Bert. :highfive:

It for sure seemed less invasive than cutting or crimping. I just went ahead and bought the tool and bands, about $12 altogether.

Now if I can just keep them out of the chicken feed... :rant that's my big project this morning.

any time we had kids, we would move the mamma and her babies over to our big chicken yard, and keep them separate from the herd, for a few weeks.....

they would get in our nesting boxes.......so keeping them out of the coop is a chore......good thing, is they will out your door in a month or so....

if you have some scrap lumber, there's an add on to agravity feeder I built that would work I think.

There are two things I'm going to try today. First, I'm going to take the ramp down and put up a roost, so maybe they won't be able to get footing. Then make the door narrow rather than short, like this:

Second, I'm going to put the feeder up on the ledge above the nests, here:

nice ideas, let me know, I can get pretty crafty with a few pieces of wood.

Granny i worried for nothing.they are ok and found their food and water,i stayed with them awhile and they sit on my shoes..they are going to have to get use to all the noise..they act scared.

aww, they probably are scared but their nosiness will kick in today.. Wish you were my GM. I could go for some home cooked meals. LOL

Thanks! I have this idea for a hand crank on a hopper than the kids can turn and release feed into one of those old-style feeders, the long skinny kind, that could be on that top ledge. Ideally it would be secondary to the main feeder, maybe filled with boss or scratch. It would be fun.

Poor things. Just try to resist the urge to scoop em up and take em back in. I'm out here now with tip and his babies. There's two hens in the same coop. The chicks are running around fine but tip still don't like it out here. He just picks a corner and stands in it. I wish they wouldn't all pick on him. He may end up back in the house.
