They are really real.  Really.  They are.  That type is bred in Malaysia.  When Jerry and others brought the original group of Seramas to the US, they were not sold the best birds by Malay standards (as the legend goes) so Malaysian culls are what started the American version.  There are a few people trying to breed the freaky ones here, but that is not the American standard at all, and they would be very hard to find.  I think we lucked out, don't you?

Oh those are some freaky looking birds, why would some breed for that when they are so cute the normal way.

I don't think they stand in that extreme position all the time. That is what they look like when alert, but it just looks wrong.

The black one that Enola posted is what the American standard looks like.

Granny, that was really sad about what happened at your GNC store today. Its so sad to hear of these things happening. His family is going to be heart broken & always wonder what they might have done differently :(
