I agree with Linda. Ice pack worked wonders for me. If an ice pack is too awkward, you can put your foot in an ice bath. About 15 mins per session. Keeping your foot elevated will help too. Blood will pool if you keep in down low all the time.
Dr. recommended ibuprofen. Advil and Motrin are the fancy name brands for this. Generic ibuprofen is much cheaper.

If the pain clinic offers you something, just take the prescription, research it and try it out at half (or less) dose. I hate taking stuff too. Suffered for years with severe headaches until I said screw it, I don't care if the advil shortens my life (by a few weeks), because I certainly wasn't in any condition to enjoy life when suffering so much. Now I take it for minor headaches before they get bad. Luckily, bad ones are rare since having kids.

As of right now I will take one or two vicodens a day. sometimes none and on a rare occasion 3. I am doing ok with this. I dont want more and will refuse more. I cant however wait 3 months. I will try the motrin. My feet are up when I am not working . I dont know I can handle the ice though. heart meds. make my feet freeze all the time.
