Camping, great pictures, your GM sounds fun. which one is she ?

Dad's mom. When I was 10 or so she used a word that I didn't know. I asked about it and she gave me a dictionary. And this a long love affair with words was born. She ran the library in a small, rural public school and also taught PE when I was very young, before school. I would sit in the little reading circle in the back room of the library while she taught library or mended books. I'll never, ever forget the way the books felt or smelled.

They had five acres of junk and pine trees with a little garden right behind the house. I could leave after breakfast and be totally alone in the woods until she hollered from the back door for lunch. I read a lot of books, shot a lot of guns, skinned a couple animals, and ate a metric ton of fresh produce cooked the simple southern way.

Today she told me (several times) that her mom (died a year before I was born) was watching over me and was so proud of what I was doing. My grandma gets confused now and repeats herself a lot. She told me she used to live in my house, a long time ago. She introduced me to my own brother Christmas two years back. She has a little house behind my aunt's house that she shares with my uncle's mom. They have full time sitters day and night.

She LOVED seeing the guineas and the baby chicks, and eating a ripe cherry tomato straight from the vine in the garden. :love

the storm sounds really scary. I think the brunt of it will miss me and center further north. but they said take action there and be prepared here.

Camping, sounds like a beautiful childhood.  !!  great memorys.    Right up my ally.

It was truly magical. I was an adult before I realized there was no central air or heat. There were window units in two bedrooms and the laundry room. There was a gas heater in the living room, and one in the bathroom. I always slept so well at her house. She had a big wall clock above the piano that would strike the hour and half hour. I have it now, but it was overwound and needs repaired. Three summers ago a staff member brought a quilt that I used for a nap. It smelled just like my grandmas laundry and I cried.

She mailed me a check last year for my birthday, just like always. My aunt told me at Christmas that I was the only one she remembered, so not to tell my cousins. Sometimes I'm just heartbroken that my kids won't get the same magical summers with their grandparents.

good evening all

I actually managed to start and finish what I had planned for the day.

Of course part of that was because I didn't have to have help or depend on any one but myself. And got go play a little xbox with both brothers.
