Are you thinking about doing the Delaware mix for meat? The meat is good but the roos are good hen roos but bad people roos. All the baby's I hatched were Delaware mixes.

Im just beginning to think about raising maybe 25 meat birds. NO idea on what kind yet.
Im just reading.....I will probably read for 6 months before I make my mind up.

Not here at my house...some where else.

Would I have to play with my meat birds too?

I know nothing about the hybrid meat birds. Granny has one. I have read enough articles to know I won't perdue that kind of chicken but I would find a good dual purpose bird to try to raise and fix for dinner when the time comes.

So just a meat bird is no bueno...but a DP bird is ok?

Im serious..I know nothing!

I need advice from professionals.

I really like the way that guy is keeping track of everything.
I like to see evidence like that.
Numbers = my favorite!

Twisted got delawtes for a reason over meat birds. Really research before you do it to make sure. I'm kind of in twisteds camp about the whole thing. Granny wants her meat bird to be a happy bird and I know she really had to regulate her food. She says she won't ever get another.

I don't want to ever have to be MEAN to my chickens but I would NOT be "playing" with them if I was going to be raising them for meat.
I still don't know IF I could actually even do it.
Im just researching.

I already learned my lesson about impulse buys...never again...
It would be a good long atlas 6 months Linda BEFORE I make my mind up.

Good. Watch the YouTube videos on meat birds. Those that raise them keep them far away from their home flock. They ate made to eat and gain. Its really sad to watch. Broken legs... Sitting in poop.... It a whole ordeal.

I have a friend who raised meaties. They aren't like regular chickens, but you process in 3 months. Most dual purpose birds are going to take a long time to reach a table weight that you would be satisfied with. Most layers don't build enough mass to be worth eating.
