 a Black  and a Liver gets you both    and 2 liver dogs  who both had 1 black parent will give you a 25% chance of a black.

Have u banded Tibbets yet?
Twist i was saying i would breed him with the royal cow & u have a 50% chance of getting a royal calf. If the royal cow is pg we would be talking about next 18 months when tibbets is mature. How long were u keeping current bull? By that point he could be breeding his daughters.

I would like to keep Porter for as long as possible. and he is just hitting his prime.

Yak bulls usually are NOT good for breeding until 3 or 4

since Porter seems to sire mainly bulls. I can sell the bull calves. Seems to be more money in Bull sales then cow sales.

also if I keep Tibbets I would have to sell both Enola (mother) and every other calf. a lot of ranchers will breed father to daughter but no futher inbreeding. And full brother to sister is a HUGE NO NO

So to me, that means black is recessive to liver. Liver dogs can carry a black gene that is "hidden", but a black dog has to have 2 black genes. Unless there are other things involved like modifying genes and other stuff that I can't remember.

Ok i was confused. I thought u wanted to bred to get royals.

a couple years ago every one was breeding for Royals and not caring about anything else. Sort of like a puppy mill and now swinging the other way. I do want my next bull (I keep) to be either a trim or a Royal and would prefer the imperial/black nose Trims are a little easier to identify quickly as markings are different. and I am assuming would be even easier with a royal

Do you use coi when you plan breedings? COI
