Electrolytes are minerals that you need to have in your blood stream so that your body works correctly, including your heart. If a person has been sweating a lot or someone is dehydrated, sometimes they can help. Glucose is the type of sugar that's in your blood stream. It's the only type of fuel your brain uses, to keep your nervous system working, which controls your entire body.

Chicks that have been in the mail too long can run out of fuel. They absorb the last of the yolk just before they hatch and it fuels them for just enough time to get mailed to someone. Once it's gone, they need to be somewhere that they can eat and drink. A quick sugar solution can help weak chicks survive. Chicks that arrive in the normal amount of time that are active, eating and drinking on their own, don't need it.
