GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

My partner and I tried our second cockerel a few minutes ago. This time partner (who was feeling better) was the one wielding the scalpel. And he had the same result. Very sure he was cutting in the right spot and then he wasn't so sure and didn't feel he could continue. So we superglued the cockerel and got him some FF and water.

We're going to give it a rest for a couple days and try to find a cock to process. Maybe on Craigslist? Then we'll have a better idea of anatomy.

Put one of your birds in position (just for landmark locating not that you are going to do the procedure) but just like if you were. Plucked and all, put your hand on his thigh, follow along the curve of the thigh towards the head, you will come to a deep valley, the deepest valley that is on the chicken, this is the spot between where the thigh ends and the ribs begin. If you cut here along the bottom rib you can do it, but it is not optimum, harder to locate the testes instead of being just under the cut they will be towards the head. Continue palpating w/ your finger tips, just after the valley towards the head you will feel the bottom of the lowest rib, now w/ the very tips of your fingers at the bottom of the rib roll your finger tips towards the head, you will feel a small valley just on top of the rib, that is where you want to cut. Once you have located it w/ your finger tips, fix that location w/ your eyes, then slowly move the skin back and forth over the area, holding the skin slightly taught on both sides, this will help you to see the small valley a little clearer as the light shines brighter on the tops of the ribs and slightly darkens the intercostal space.

If y'all do another order for the Chinese tools please msg me because I would love a set!

We can make copies, can't we? I'll check into it.

I hadn't thought of that.  That's an indication of how preoccupied I am over the beginning of the school year.  Yes.  Let me know if you are able to make a copy.

I ran out of room in the Thumbs-Up box :-D I'm going to do my level best to get it done before we meet up tomorrow. That way you'll have copies for people. I sure wish I understood their language.

Hi. Just wondering if you are still giving classes?

Yes.  If you have a group in MO interested, I can come to you.  Send me a PM and we can talk about this more.
I was thinking about this....while I'm not near as experienced as Poco, I want to help. I don't think I can be of much help with the teaching aspect but Coral-if you need someone to go along as Kid Watcher and Helper I'm more than willing. That way if others have kids there I can keep the whole group entertained so you all can concentrate on learning. I've got 3 adult kids so I have plenty of experience :-D
