Are you aware that is quite old, very old, for a Coturnix?3 years
Yes.Are you aware that is quite old, very old, for a Coturnix?
That seems like a lot of blood, to me. The intestines look full of air too...not sure what that would mean.Cut open -- Pictures:View attachment 2740673View attachment 2740674View attachment 2740678
What should I do next?
Just wondered if cutting her open could help confirm what caused her death in particular. I also simply find it interesting, and good practice for butchering quail, which is something I am planning to do soon.Yes.
Ok good. I would guess your bird was not sick with a disease. I would guess it died due to old age type things.Yes.
Great! I don't think anyone can tell why she died.Just wondered if cutting her open could help confirm what caused her death in particular. I also simply find it interesting, and good practice for butchering quail, which is something I am planning to do soon.
Anything ripped, with holes, bruised/purple, swollen compared to surrounding attached tissue. That's all I can suggest. Also check gut and digestive tract for blockages or parasite overload?Does anyone have any links on how to tell what is normal and what isn't when looking at the inside of a quail? (I haven't opened her up yet.)
