[GraphicDog attack, very bad back wound. I NEED HELP

Peroxide is okay if that is all you have, but only use it once--it will not hurt as the first cleaning. But plain old dish soap (Dawn, Palmolive, etc) and warm water will also work. You will need some plain Triple Antibiotic ointment to use if you can go to the store later. It will help in wound treatment, and keep any flies away from her. How is she doing? Awake, alert, drinking water? What do you have for your own first aid needs?

Joined forum just to post in this thread. One of my batems developed a huge hole in the back of her neck, i think from the rooster. It was the size if a quarter. All bloody, full of pus. Just horrible looking. Id be in the ER if it happened to me. Anyway, i immediately thought it needed stitches. The local fed supply by me said to use "equaide." Small container, cost about $15. It looks like mud. They told me to just pack the wound and wait a few days. Well it actually worked. Couldnt believe it. Bird was all healed up. I did clean it with peroxide before applying and dryed it really well. Not sure if that helped or not. Neosporin works good too. Good luck.

Equade is one of those products where the ingredients are mysterious, due to the company that sells it. I couldn't find any ingredients listed, and it doesn't seem to be widely available. It is used to help treat proud flesh wounds in horses, and may be fine, but products such as Vetericyn, chlorhexidene, and Neosporin are more available locally.

I was able to make it to the vet, her surgery is tomorrow. The doctor gave me antibiotics and pain meds. I got a better look at the wound there, it is about 1 1/2" in diameter. She has 2 more near her neck but missed anything vital, her left wing is dropping which could be a fracture. I will keep you posted.

:yesss:Great job getting her seen by a vet!
Very best wishes for the best possible outcome. :flPlease keep us posted. :hugs

I've finally heard from the vet, she said that she did an amazing job during the operation and was finally starting to wake up. Then she just passed away. The vet thinks the wounds were more serious than we had thought before and there might've been internal bleeding aswell. That, or she was too stressed out. But i am going to pick her up tomorrow morning and bring her home where she will be buried next to her three sisters.
