grass clipping from mown lawn

i use lawn clippings for nest boxes they don't use yet. the bottom two are close to devoid of inseting material.
 
I've been letting my girls out to play and forage in the cut grasss. My DH lets it grow super tall in the back of the garage then cuts it down and they love it.
