Great Horned Owl INSIDE my pen! MORE PHOTOS

Quote:
He was amazingly easy to catch. He cornered himself on the ground.... hubby blinded him with a super bright flash light while I put the net over him. we then put him in a dog crate over night and to make sure he wasnt injured. then the next day I moved him to a bird pen, so hed have more room until we can release him.

BTW he smels like a skunk.

That will save the rooster...... he'll just take a finger or two.

Yea I was thinkin.... how the heck do I feel him without donating a body part?? I have a healthy respect for those talons and that bill! OMG
He is pretty angry, although he doesn't puff his feathers out anymore when he sees me... but that hissing is enough of a warning

OK I wont discuss his diet since some of you are offended, but hes not starving.

I have people coming for peacocks today so Mr Who is staying 1 more day.

That is FUNNY! LOL I didn't suggest wearing leather gloves because I just assume common sense tells you not to stick your bare hands on one

You are doing a great job! I love his name "Mr. Who" That is cute.

Great pics! Thanks for keeping him safe and well-fed until you can release him.

A lot of people couldn't do that. I'm also glad you caught him before he did too much damage to your flock. That would have been a shame to find he had destroyed your peafowl.

You'll have to post some release pics, too!

Can you tell if it's a female owl?

By the way, how do owl eggs taste anyways?

Great Horned owls have very little sense of smell, and are the primary predator of skunks. At least you know that skunk won't be bothering your chickens.

He's a beautiful guy. The first time I saw one and the first time I saw a pileated woodpecker were the same day. The owl was chasing the woodpecker through the trees. It was a wonderful thing to see. I think the poor woodpecker picked the wrong tree to pound on.

How beautiful!!! I was looking at his photos, and my mini dachshund was sitting on my lap and jumped up and just stared, and stared at the owl. I moved the mouse, and she jumped back and started barking to attack it.

Thats pretty funny. We walked our young cat "Earl" over to see it yesterday. Earl never noticed it until he hissed at him. Then poor Earl freaked out, climbed over hubbys shoulder and ran to the house. LOL
I cant seem to stay off the camera since he showed up.... here's some more pics.

WOW that is so awesome! He is beautiful! You are so lucky!! I would absolutely sacrifice some of my unwanted roosters to him as well. You are doing the right thing! I am not sure why people are so weird about that. Thousands upon thousands of chickens get eaten every day, by other animals and people. He deserves to eat what nature intended for him to eat.
