Great POV video on processing meaties

do you cut the organs up?or just let the birds rip them apart?not concerned about bacteria?

well , good to know about the quail eggs. I presume you mean for hatching? we've just been eating them. we only get 2/day right now, but they are fertilized.

No not worried about bacteria. They are fresh organs. I process the birds myself. My dogs eat the legs, necks and hand off the wings.

Yes I mean for hatching :) What type of quail do you keep?

I thought they were called ''Japanese quail'', but I do not believe so. I haven't done any reaserch to find out yet actually. I do know they are NOT bob quail.i'm actually after 10-12 more hens tho. a guy into work raises them to sell for the meat. so I might get a few from him next spring....time will tell. or just find someone with a brooder I guess.

aoxa....you get $4 / dozen for eggs?everyone around here only gets $2 .and my neighbors only charge $1.75!!!! is it supply/demand?or just that I live in the country....it brings up the question....I have quail as well. what should I charge for a dozen of those????any ideas????

Most of these people selling eggs that cheap are probably loosing money, they just don't realize it. The feed cost is really high, especially if you feed organic. Other wise they are eating GMO which is no better than store eggs.

So animals raised ethically and on pasture, but substituted with conventional feed are no better than factory farmed eggs?
I highly doubt that.

I can't afford the more than double the cost price tag on organic. Especially when they don't offer any animal protein in the organic either. I would go broke if I went with organic. Therefore I rely mostly on live food (pasture, bugs, etc) with feed twice a day.

I was thinking that , that isn't much money!....I remember that as a teenager I went out with a farmers daughter. I think they sold theirs for the same price;.........and that was over 20 years ago!

problem is that that is the going rate here. hard to ''buck the system'' when everyone is selling for that. I was thinking about charging more ,but delivering. between my wife and I, we are all over the place anyhow!

to my knowledge there is only 1 guy here that rarely lets his birds out to free range. and knowing him...........it's just simple laziness! lol
