Great Pyranees Puppies / Alabama (NEW PICS 11/16) THANKS

Lovely pups!

I have a couple of questions about the breed.....

Do they live their lives with the livestock?

If so, can you still have housedogs besides the Pyranees or do they feel left out of that pack?

I think people do it many ways, but most leave them with the livestock and many do not even pet them much and then they don't know there is life besides their livestock family. The parents we have stay with the chickens, but we do pet them when we're there and they LOVE IT! They do however, bark at the gate some when we leave with our two personal dogs, but they stop soon and go back to their chickens. Dogs do not have the same thought processing as people, so they accept their life and have purpose in protecting their charges. I have read of people who have them out during the day with the animals and after they put the animals up at night, they let them in the house. Many people, many ways.

Thanks for answering that... we have a housedog right now, but once we move to the country I'd like to get one to keep with the birds but wasn't sure how it would work out having two separate roles like that for the dogs. I wish I could get one now... your puppies are so cute and the parents look like good chicken dogs

I wanted to let you know that I ran into a guy here on Saturday that sold me a GP... So I will not be coming to AL unless DH changes his mind....

Sad thing is, the guy told me the pup was weaned at 4 weeks and when we got him home he wouldn't eat the dry food.... We ended up going to get puppy supplement and evap milk.... he's much more active and happy.... I know we should keep him out with the animals in the barn but at 4 weeks, I just can't.... he whimpers and nuzzles DH and I as well as our other two inside dogs.... He's so pitiful it makes your heart break.... We have been taking him out to the barn for several hours so he gets used to the animals....

They don't want anything to do with him and he cowers and whines when something comes near him..... Whatcha think??

Thanks.

Maybe if he imprints a little with your other dogs and they aren't afraid, he'll get more bold. That's pretty young. I know ours changed a bunch in the last 2 weeks. They're following both of the grownups around and seem to be imitating them. The males even go sit next to the daddy like they know they're supposed to be like him one day. It's wild.

If he doesn't work out, KEEP MY NUMBER

I could meet you at the Decatur Al. exit on 65. These are out there eatin' up the chow and checkin' out the world.
Sorry not to get to meet you, but have a great Thanksgiving!

My other dogs are inside dogs and DO NOT get in the barn area....

They like to chase the animals... not so much hurt them as just chase... I'm afraid they'll hurt them and then they'd have to go....

What concerns me is he may not know what his job is being so young...

He's even tried to nurse from both of my other fixed dogs... one male one female... the female was not as upset as the male if you know what I mean....

I will keep you in mind... maybe I could borrow mom or dad for a bit to teach the puppy how to act??
