Greedy broody

Yertle the Chicken is broody and I gave in and let her set on seven eggs.

Twice a day I have to steal back the eggs laid by other hens from adjacent box. I’ve put a barrier between the previously open back wall and she still manages to sneak a new or two a day.

First time it happened she has 15 eggs beneath her.

I find this hilarious.

Are you sure the others aren't sneaking in there when she's on break and laying in her nest? I had a hard time with that with mine. Every day had to remove the newbies. There is a video out there though of a broody hen moving eggs with her neck, beak, and wings from one nest into another. Might be on here, I'm not sure, but it's hilarious! Amazing what they manage without hands!

Not sure at all. Especially now that the barrier is up. My hens sometimes “share” a nesting boxes and squeeze in together.

“Mind if I drop off the kid with you and go hang out in the run? Let me come in. Ah. Here you go. Thanks for watching bye!”
