Green Egger Naked Neck Thread

Pics
I'm glad to hear you are working again. It must be a great relief.
I'm happy you are back on track with your project. Using an Araucana will probably produce some rump-less chicks.
That would be cool. Rumpless, nn, green egg layers.  :thumbsup

Not back to work yet. Still haven't found a job , but I have managed to hang onto my chickens. Just trying to make enough from them here and there to pay for the feed

Well yesterday I set:
32 green eggs a Blue (Wheaten or Copper)
rooster over 2 NN hens that lay the green
eggs.
45 brown eggs from a Araucana (yes the
rumplessness) rooster over Naked Neck
hens.

I'll hatch these out in clutches so I can see what us what and mark them. See how many turn out how many pullets I get and how many lay green/blue eggs.

This sounds like a fun project. Please keep us posted. Following

I'm going to try keeping it updated.
I'm not particularly try to breed for rumplessness, just heard ( read not saying its true either). They tend to pass the blue egg gene on and is a truer blue.

Here are 4 of 7 chicks that hatched 9/17-18/2015 out of green eggs. The daddy was a Naked Neck and as far as I know has no blue egg genes in him. So it will be a while before I know if they are going to turn out to be green/blue egg layers.

Update on hatch.

I have a total of ten Naked Neck chicks that hatched from green eggs. It is just going to be a l g wait to see if they in turn will be green egg layers.

On the bad side the 45 eggs that I had set from my Araucana rooster over three if my NN hens were not fertile. Not a single one. I think the rooster may have still been a little too young.
I sold the Araucana off today so no repeat of that cross.

I have a rooster here that hatched from a green egg and has a pea comb, that is a brother to one of the green egg NN hens and a half brother to the other one. I'm going to try this trio together for a hatch next year hf I can get them through the winter.

Stay tuned for pictures of the little buggers.

Looking forward to the pics !!!

NN x NN = 100% NN
NN x Nn = 50% NN + 50% Nn
Nn x Nn = 25% NN + 50% Nn + 25% nn (fully feathered)

Nn x nn = 50% Nn + 50% nn (fully feathered)

Posting here for future reference.

Tried putting on the first post but can no longer edit it.
