I have a pair of boots that reside on my back porch. I step right into them as I exit the house, do my chicken work, step out of them and step in the door. The chicken pen is maybe 80' from the porch, so I'm walking thru grass both ways. I have flies. Not around the chickens, but in the house. I don't think they're coming from my porch/boots, but DH thinks they are. Any suggestions on fly control? (This is really tongue-in-cheek--he thinks I don't know it, but he lets 2 out every day and they hang around the house and he feeds them crackers--it's his fault, but nothing I say changed that! He lures them back into the pen before I get home--my granddaughter told on him)

Hi, i know this sounds crazy but you could bring some chickens into your house, they adore green flies. and maybe mow the grass?

yes, that does sound crazy. Believe it or not, we cut the grass probably every 4 days--all 3 acres of it. I'm in Alabama, hot and humid most of the year. We cut grass in end Feb/first March and don't stop till after Thanksgiving in November. Dec and Jan, we rake leaves. Then it starts all over again. We don't allow animals in the house, only humans. I spray down the porches often. I'm planning to put a basin of disinfectant liquid by the porch and step into it every time I come in, changing it daily.

Are these the green blow/bottle fly? Looks like a house fly, but slightly larger, and greenish blue?

If so ... Do you have any sheep around? Slaughter house? Garbage dump?
