Green hen or something else?

He is more than 50% green blood! Good bird !
What about winter ? In Texas no really winter !
How can you tell the % on and green blood bird? Any way to tell the difference if I had to buy another bird?
And the weather in Texas is hot rite now, winter isn’t so bad, last winter it snowed.

You never know about the winters, I know a guy in Florida that lost about ten high % spauldings last winter. Sid had an ice storm that brought most of his top netting down, I think he had losses too. Up here in Kansas I had a lot of frostbite on my high% birds.

Once you have been around Spauldings for a while you can tell the range of % they can be. I was guessing the cockbird you showed was over mid range but not enough to be high. Spaulding do not breed true and they will produce both higher and lower percentages from the same pair of birds.

Knowing exactly the percentage spalding is difficult.
A spalding (blue) 50% the feathers of the neck have the form of scales and the color is turquoise.
The larger the scales, the higher the percentage. An eye appears in each feather!
Spaulding do not breed true and they will produce both higher and lower percentages from the same pair of birds.
It has been scientifically proven?
With each generation they use the genetic material AVAILABLE ... not a fantasized material!

Oh wow! Maybe I need to make a better pen for the greens, I’m might put him with a better green or high % hen. If he is somewhat good spalding I would like to make better birds out of him. Hopefully I can find one after breeding season.
And yes I remember Sid told me when I visited during winter he had trouble with the snow. But he has great facilities and great birds.

What about their feed? Do they need different nutrition to make their face color and feathers vibrant?

End of the season for the rooster Pavo muticus muticus .... it remains well colored and yet only receives corn all year. Now it will go free ranging until the first of November (the frosts begin). When they are free ranging this is where you see they are herbivores!
