Anyone know which of these would be laying a dusty rose colored egg:
Buff Orpingtons
Blue and a White Cochin
White Leghorn (I know it's not her but I'm listing my sweet Dumpling anyhow)
Barred Rock
Partidge Rock (again, NOT her. I saw her lay this morning)
Welsummer
Dominiques
Green Queen (NOPE. Her egg is GREEN)
One of my ladies is laying a nice dusty rose egg. Hope you can see
Is she a Frizzle? I can definitely see her feet so she's got no feathers, and it looks like she's got 4 toes. Very interesting little lady though!!
First of all what a beautiful bird. May I ask where you got her? I just ordered some GQ to my current flock order. And I'm hoping they turn out like her! I want to shy away from feathered legs but won't be a problem of they do. I'm very excited and just marvel at how pretty yours is!View attachment 2292548
This is my green queen. She is 21 weeks old. She was a very friendly chick, but as she has gotten older she is a little more cautious of humans and seems a little flighty.
Hoping we will get to see an egg out of her soon, and will gladly share here. Been hoping to see some other green queen eggs.View attachment 2292551
Five toes and muff indicates that silkies are part of the bloodline. Her skin looks a little darker as well. I cross bantam cochins and silkies to create bantam smooth and frizzle satins routinely. The green queen looks similar to a first generation satin but with more easter egger features. I am curious as to how many generations it would take to breed out the easter egger features for a green egg laying silkie. Here are some of the eggs Sammi is laying. The reasons I know she's a Green Queen vs an Olive Egger (Easter Egger) are:
1. She has 5 toes
2. She's got feathered legs
3. She's got a beard
4. She's got a muff
5. She's pretty shy/aloof/steers clear, bottom of pecking order by choice
6. Meyer Hatchery was SUPER busy due to Covid, so I was able to see the baby chick choices left for my hatch date. I ordered assorted brown, rare, heritage and rainbow layers to save a little money and be surprised, so I was able to deduce which chicks I got by what they had left when I placed my order.
Sammi is a great layer-all of my June 8 chicks are kicking butt!! It's a typical Ohio winter here in NE Ohio, and I've got 9 of my 11 laying!! Sammi is laying 4 eggs a week but she just started Christmas Eve! Not bad.
I can't determine if my two buff orpingtons or my two Dominiques are the late layers-I really have a feeling it's my Dominiques. One was such a late bloomer. So cute, but so slow growing!!
