Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I am not an artist and this drawing is not to scale but just to give a rough idea of what I am talking about

This is a single unit

Top words: Cement or cement/tire den this part is underground
Middle words: 8" diameter pvc pipe connecting den and cage (this will go through the retaining garden wall also)
Bottom words: The outside wire pen, raised above the ground for easy poop collecting (the broken line that forms a box)

Left words: Cement blocks inside bed, raising the ded off the ground level so no flooding of the den.

This shows grouped together in the raised bed garden. I only drew one of the outside cages for clarity, but there would be an outside cage w/ each den. Each den would have a lid of some kind, not sure what yet, the whole top part of the rectangle around the den tops would be planted in garden. That is also the part that would be back filled w/ wood and compostables, topped w/ dirt. Hope that makes what I typed more clear.

I will be posting pics as I have things to take pics of! lol

I am doing a similar thing for my rabbits, but I am cutting barrels in half to make the buried chamber. Barrels are cheap ($10), and should last forever. I thought about doing a concrete one, but the labor and cost made me consider something else. I am doing 13 of these in a line.

Awesome idea I'll have to check into that. That could be a perfect solution.

That's quite a few, what are you going to do w/ all those buns???

I am starting w/ a row of 5, figure that is enough for 2 does and 1 buck and 2 grow outs. If my plans work and this is doable for me, I will build one more raised bun/garden bed w/ 4 or 6 1/2 for does and 1/2 for grow outs. Well now actually that I think about it and type it out you are starting w/ as many as I'm thinking about ending with. How much meat do you think that will yeild? I was thinking just from reading not from personal experience that for each 2 does a person would get roughly 5 processed buns per month is that anywhere near what you were thinking?

Oh and I would be very interested in the outcome of your grain / fodder experiment.

My little project is progressing! I removed some soil today and I'm seeing the top of the rock. The actual stem of the plant is starting to float above the rock though. I might have to wire it down for a while? Roots are growing nice and deep but only on three sides of the rock. Maybe this will be a test run leading up to a masterpiece :p.

I got one of those barrel/tumbler composters from a friend. Anybody ever use one? I've heard they compost a full load really fast? Any tips for me? Temps are in the 20's now, so I'm assuming it will be useless until spring.

When you compost do nto use meat or dairy.

WHat is that plant your showing ?

HI ALL new to this thread and love to plant My garden is my big hobby second to my cats and chickens
