Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

It sure is wonderful weather in the South, right now.

I finished my new bed and sowed corn, beans and squash.

I still have a ton of seedlings of all kinds in my greenhouse.. I really need to prep more space for them to grow *laugh* also have lots of seeds I still have to plant. My onion and garlic are starting to grow in the bag, so I need to start hurrying up!

Nature is trying to rush me

We have had a freeze warning last 2 days. I have had to cover all my tomato plants and some others. Looks like its going to be a great easter weekend.

Finally got the peas in last week. It was snowing out and I was planting peas.
Rototilled the big garden yesterday. Going to try and get surag snaps and kale in today.

OMG YES! My veggie seeds are on order, I've already planted blackberries, strawberries, rhubarb, and two more blueberries. And hallelujah, I am home on what promises to be a gorgeous sunny day (a rarity in west TN this spring). I'm planning on scratching that itch with vigor: cleaning up gardens, hauling compost, tying up raspberries, pruning stuff, weed whacking (if I can get the darned thing running) and generally enjoying the great outdoors, hoe and cultivator in hand.

Landscaping fabric and mulch is what I use in my garden.

Old newpapers in the "balks" or in between the rows.
Build a chicken portable run that fits over your garden bend. We built a light weight hoop style one out of 2x2's fence boards and fencing. It's 4x6 and fits on the frames of our raised beds. .there is a reason they are called "chicken tractors"...

If you pull weeds before they go to seed you will have less of that weed every year. When we bought our house three years ago the yard was a 1/2 acre of crabgrass and weeds, now we are down to now we are down to mostly just the deep root weeds.

We picked our first family sized batch of asparagus this morning!

I can't wait for my asparagus. Going to put in potatoes, kale, mustard greens and maybe more peas.
Spent the weekend cleaning out my hosta garden( about 50 different types) and a shade garden .one more huge wildflower garden and I will be good to go for the summer.if that ever gets here.
I planted red and yellow onions last week.everthing is going in much more slowly this year.

Have a big garden day planned for today too. Lots of seed planting and bed prep work to do, and need to harvest some asparagus. I have a cherry tree and two blueberries I got this week that need to be planted too.

Kass, the pics are inspiring.

I worked in the herb garden today. Laying down cardboard between the beds and spreading last years hay on top of it, until it started to rain and I got soaked. Yesterday I took the horse manure out and spread that on top of the beds and cleaned things up a bit.

Spring is lots of clean up.

I stopped in to ask about Lavender. It's all grey now. Do I cut off the grey? I did trim the mints back to as close to the green as I dared. It's hard to believe in a couple of weeks they will be up.

I left the gate open for the chickens to scratch and clean and I'm afraid they've decimated the garlic. There was some green but how badly they ate them down I don't know.

I was cleaning out the van and found a bag that has or had potatoes in it. I had gotten them from the school but forgot they were in the van cuz they fell down beside the two bales of straw I keep in there. I keep the straw in the van to keep it dry til I need to use it. What I will do with the potatoes I have no idea other than toss them in the compost.
