Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I got my peppers in the indoor mini green house thingy yesterday. Cubanelle, guajillo, ancho, serano, habanero, jalapeno, green red and yellow bells.... we like peppers

Repotted my mango (grew it from seed last summer). I have no idea if it'll ever be a success... but it's fun to try.

Going to sow some sweet peas outside today. WAY too late, apparently you want to get them in the ground around Thanksgiving here.... only doing a few, hoping I get lucky and this weird winter drags on (lucky? Well.... lol)

Only a few weeks until my cold weather seedlings go outside. About time to sow some turnips, snap peas and other 'must grow before summer hits' veggies.

I sowed some flower seeds indoors today as they have a long germination time.. I loved having my hands back in dirt and getting those dirty fingernails! Later in the day I blew my nose and what do you know.. more dirt lol. Spring can't come soon enough! 

Several years ago I spent a few weeks in Bar Harbor Maine. Wanted to get to Nova Scotia in the worst way. The ferry times just never worked.What planting zone are you in?I know you're rather mild when it comes to Canada. I have not given up on visiting your area.

Several years ago I spent a few weeks in Bar Harbor Maine. Wanted to get to Nova Scotia in the worst way. The ferry times just never worked.What planting zone are you in?I know you're rather mild when it comes to Canada. I have not given up on visiting your area.

I believe around a 5, maybe 6a in some spots. I'm moving to Newfoundland in a few months so the growing season will be even shorter..wah! I don't know how I'm gonna survive having more winter than I'm already used to haha!

I've started Fox glove and tomatoes. Will start other things as we get closer to planting time. Pumpkins and squashes.

None of my started peppers came up, house is too cold I guess. I reseeded a few days ago, should still be in time (mid April is our frost date). Tomatoes did much better, I started those two weeks after the peppers.

I was brave and planted some of my seedlings outdoors already. They had gotten so darn big, I had to! We've had a little bit of frost and none of it died, so yay. Put some zucchini seed in the top of the compost bin, they're already sprouting (it's only been a few days. Gotta love the heat boost a compost gives). Nasturtium seedlings around the compost... I should be able to beat those darn squash borers this year.

My peach tree is looking fabulous, about half of the blooms are open and I've seen several honey bees buzzing around. Spring is most definitely here! My fig did not make it, not surprised.. it was a small seedling when I planted last year and this winter has been unusually cold. It think last year's muscadine and grape made it, they seem to have some leafbuds, but it's too early to tell.

We built a new bed for my herb garden.. used 6" wide decking boards to build an 8x24 foot bed. Most of the stuff in it will be perenial, so not too worried about having to reach in there. I've got catnip, lemonbalm, hyssop, lovage, rosemary, lavendar, thyme, basil, chives, chervil, spearmint, yarrow, chamomile, calendula and a bunch more I can't remember right now

We're still on the cool side and none of the trees have started to bud out, but I planted cabbages, broccoli, broccoli rabe, kale, and lettuce the other day. The ground is way too mushy to work in, so all of these went into my fancy-dancy, pick'em up for free, tire planters. I also spent yesterday cleaning a winter's worth of broken limbs out of the pastures. If we have dry weather next weekend, I need to fire up the chainsaw and take care of five windfalls. My burn pile is going to be spectacular.

Hubby bought me a wheelbarrow! lol its all new and shiny and blue. No more dragging mulch and clippings on an old pool liner for this girl!

I am almost done laying the woodchips on the new garden plot. CANNOT wait to see it grow this year.



Note the blue pool liner. That's how I filled that garden and the front bed with a thick layer of woodchips, LOL. Hard work but gonna save SO much time this year and years to follow. Sorry for photo quality, lol.
