Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

One of the reasons for deep mulch. Makes gardening sooooooooooooo much easier. Aiming for around 8" of mulch on the entire garden this year. You can already see the ground improving under the mulch I laid down a couple weeks ago. Amazing how fast it works.


Im working on a citrus orchard plan now. I'm from florida and miss growing citrus trees, lol. The climate is soooooo close to North Florida here in Crossville (longer cold snaps and a bit colder but still manageable), that I think with a rocket heater and simple greenhouse, we can grow our citrus in ground, year-round. Gonna be a fun project to try out!

I love citrus.. but I am terrible at covering things in time. I actually did grow a mango from seed last summer, and it's still alive woohoo. LOL

They sell hardier citrus as well as some unusual plants for our area (like olives, persimmons, kiwis, pomegranate!) I plan on checking them out in person soon, as I live not far away from them.

Rancher I feel your pain.

As with most of you ,I'm losing my mind with this cold winter.( what little mind I have left.)

My friend just built me a new cold frame. I just have to decide what I'm putting I it.

The other day I had 2 yards of soil delivered and put in my new raised beds and 2 hours later the chickens decided that was too much and took 1/2 yard out. They so needed to scratch around that I didn't stop them.

More cold and rain here. Yuck. The plants are loving it though... so I guess I can put up with it. The chicken yard is a mud pit though, they're not amused.

I bought a little greenhouse. All my seedings are sprouting. So excited. Added two goats too.....guess who reinforced the fence

My friend just got a new greenhouse. It is nice.

Put red onions in yesterday. Tried to turn over the small raised bed in front of my chicken run. Still frozen and it gets the most sun. I am happy to report that my spinach that I put in one of my cold frames is up.

Starting to feel hopeless. Another round of cold and nasty predicted for next week. Planted some spinach, snow peas and turnips, think I will need to replant. If it ever thaws. I have a cold that will not quit, could not finish my new raised beds before the last round, just all around cranky.
Can't wait to plant new tomato varieties and see things grow!
