I go on line and order every catalog I can. Many have the same seeds but cheaper prices. Some have cheaper shipping too. Plus I like to keep the mail man busy and in work.
Oh and forgot to mentioned ordered my rhubarb today.
What is it with this weather, barely any snow on the ground and temp is upper forties, maybe fifty. Nows the time to buy jelly and jam fruits, prices are lower.
I have also caught the "bug".. just hope this year my thumb stays green instead of turning brown. In the past i have always started plants from seeds (doesnt work too well for me (with the exception of tomatoes) this year im buying all my plants!

ta, ta for now,

I do this too. Then I go through them all, (really gets me itching) and decide what I want. Then I order on-line, from whoever has the most of what I want. I try to order from only one or two, to save on postage. The less postage I pay, the more seeds I can buy. This year I don't need to buy anything besides corn, and I'm still looking for a good heirloom sweet corn. We like peaches and cream corn, but it is hybrid, so I can't save the seeds. I'm working on having a garden I can plant every year, from seeds I've saved. Corn and carrots are the two I haven't found yet. Corn because I haven't found one I really like, and carrots because they take two years to seed. We manage to eat all of the carrots, so they don't live long enough to make seed. Oh, and onions. I had onion seeds drying last year, and the chickens ate them, so I had to buy onion plants again.
I can't stand it anymore...I just planted a bunch of papaya seeds lol. So far I planted these varieties: Red Lady, Hawaiian Solo Sunset, Solo Sunrise Improved, Waimanalu x-77, Red Maradol. Let the seedling madness begin muuhaha.
I hear ya about the catalogs there are so many purties in there. I mostly do my ordering online but I do like to look at the catalogs. So tempting.
Me too! Built planter boxes today and are planning to build more tmrw. I have a doc with all my plans laid out on what's going where. Can't wait, my first year back Stateside and with more than one season.
At my new place (!!!) DH is allowing me to plant a huge area. I plan to plant a full acre, maybe some more. I plan on doing a 1/2 acre orchard, which If I remember my calculations can hold 32?? dwarf fruit trees. I am going to put a cute fence around the orchard, and do grapes on the fencing around it. I am also doing a cranberry bush ground cover in the orchard. In the orchard I want apple, peach, apricot, plum, mulberry, cherry, almond, fig,
Then, I am going to build 12- 4x10 raised beds, and 4- 4x20 beds. The 4x20 are one for strawberries, one for asparagus, one for blueberries, one for raspberries. I am going to build hoop houses with bird netting over the 3 berry beds so I can get some berries!! ( altho the chipmunks have been a much bigger nusiance with berries instead!)
In the 4x10s I have 3 dedicated to tomatoes. One will be for my heirloom slicers and cherry/grapes. My fresh eaters. The other two will be for my paste tomatoes, as I use a TON of tomatoes, and can them in pasta sauce, diced, whole, salsa, etc.
Two has peppers- 1 for sweets, 1 for hots
two has onions
1 has eggplants, and after the eggplants are done I will plant with garlic. Eggplants I set out when its really warm, so the garlic will be close to being done, if not done.
Another for carrots/radishes, once the spring season is done, I put in sugar snaps, once those are done I put in carrots/radishes again in fall
1 for "salad bar"- Micro greens, arugula, spinach, head lettuce, etc.
1 for beans, pole beans with tents, and then dry shell beans as well.
1 for the lovely cabbage family- brussels, chard, cabbage, broccoli, califlower..
1 for potatoes
1 for squash.
I for cukes
1 for corn???Artichokes??celery?melons??pumpkins?? who knows!
I may need more....hehe!
Having this many beds allows for good crop rotation though, which I haven't been able to do here sadly because of light restrainments. Hubby is also going to build me a cold frame(!!) and a greenhouse out of unwanted windows (!!!!!!) All the beds will also be built from unwanted lumber off craigslist, as long as it's not treated. What may also be an option is using cinder blocks, so we aren't repairing beds. I will provide crops to my immediate family, and anything we can't can/freeze or use will go to the food pantry! They always need help. I just love gardening.
Sorry for rambling, I get so excitied about what is going to come!
