Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I have an aunt who makes homemade wine, out of the 20+ varieties I have tried, her dandelion wine is the best.
It is wonderful as a spritzer w/ 7-UP on a hot summer night.
It is also funny to see the neighbors kids (aged 10 down to 5) picking all the dandelion flowers for her - she pays them by the ice cream bucket!

If we ever have a "hot summer day"

I don't remember which garden thread the asparagus conversation was on, but my asparagus I planted from seed is all up, tiny but just like little bitty asparagus.

Once upon a time, I rented a house that had a small patch of asparagus growing out back. I used to pick a stalk or two to munch on when I took my dogs down to the little pond. Then, years later, my son's science teacher told him that raw asparagus is poisonous.

Did I luck out because I ate so little, or is she mistaken?

I just Googled it and most sites say the berries are poisonous and the young shoots can cause a slight skin irritation I eat them raw all the time, whole or sliced into salads.I have never had a problem; Then again I think I'm part goat and can eat anything.( Cold pizza for breakfast).

Cold pizza is the bestest breakfast ever!

Second best is cold fried chicken!

Growing up, I always raided the aspargus patch for snacks! That and the peas.
My mom had the aspargus planted right next to the dill. Not good when pickle season started - a 5 year old can't tell the difference between dill and overgrown aspargus!

I love raw asparagus with a little bit of homemade garlic mayo! Yum! I'm very sensitive to things and have never had a problem. Hmmm...

She is mistaken. There are a few wild ferns that people sometimes mistake for asparagus, like Horse tails and snow fern, but they are not poisonous either.

BTW, Even though it rained on and off all day we finally finished our new raised bed (4x16) today. The compost/soil arrives tomorrow and I can fill it and FINALLY plant my asparagus crowns.

Froze here last night and I forgot to close up the cold frame. I'll see what is dead today only had three tomato plants and three pepper in it at this point.Always running around like a mad woman with too much to do.Hope everyone has better luck. I think it is suppose to be colder tonight.
