Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

Rancher hicks, I love the raised beds. And the lavender! When we lived in California I had what basically amounted to a hedge, about 40' long and 4' high. It smelled so good in the yard but attracted every bee for miles. We made a tea from it, then flavored homemade ice-cream with the tea.

Queenchick, I like to take cuttings from my house plants and once they've rooted I sneak them into the big planters at the mall. I think it's funny to see my Wandering Jews all over the mall. It's only fair since I stole pieces of the mall's philodendrons and pothos and brought them home to start.

When I was a kid my mom had a house full of plants, there wasn't a spot upstairs or down that didn't have some kind of plant in it. Albert, your mention of cuttings brought back memories of my mom taking cuttings from where ever she was because she liked the plant and didn't have one at home, we'd get home and she'd say "Oh look what fell in my purse". Then it would be in the window sill in a glass rooting.

Hahaha! I take cuttings from everywhere and make my wife put them in her purse! She always says,"You're going to get me arrested! Knock it off!"

HAHAHA That sure brings back memories. My mom and her old lady Garden Club friends were constantly doing that when I was young! There wasn't a mall or a nursery within a thousand miles that was safe from those old lady's purses and pinching fingers!

Growing up I was raised by my Gma, and we always had a small hand shovel, clippers and some containers in the trunk. We would drive in the country around where we lived and if any plants caught our eye we would harvest a little for our yard.

the ultimate was when I first got married ,my husband and I spent the summer as nature museum directors at Bear mountain State park along the Hudson river in ny Enery weekend people from the city would come up and dig up whole trees mt laurel, rodarendron, etc.

when I first moved to LongIsland I would plant nonstop begonias. Around my mail box.It was the perfect spot. We went to Atlantic city one weekend and when I got back someone had dug everyone of them up. I went to staples and bought a big piece of oak tag and made a sign that said ..."next time knock and I will give you the 79cents for the cell pack.

I also take little snippets every now and then so I am also at fault.

I had a California Bay tree (~6ft) That my friend swears my husband killed by peeing in it.You can't imagine how I had to get it in and out of the house every summer. She kept telling me that any time I wanted to get rid of it any of her clients out in the Hamptons would pay a premium for it. I should have taken the money and ran with it.It started out as a twig. He hates plants in the house.HATESthem.

Well now that's my method of pred control and there is a tree near the coop that got "marked" and I'm not sure but it's deader than a door nail. I'm beginning to think male urine would make a great weed killer. Though you'd have to reapply til the job is done.

I picked up pieces of Wandering Jew at the Christmas tree shop and rooted it but then my DD came with her cats and it was like catnip to them and they kept climbing on top of the China Cabinet and killed it. We joked they were getting high from chewing on it.

Tourists can be so dumb sometimes and I admit to being that way once. It's a wonder there are any rocks in Isreal after 250 of us passed through.
