Greetings from freezing Wisconsin

Welcome from also frigid upstate NY! I have a single chick a week old today. I'm brand new to all of this also. I had one not fully hatch, as well as a duck. They appeared full term and I'm not sure what happened. One more duck egg out there with my broody hen, but the other died yesterday, so I'm not real hopeful . The baby is doing great and appears very healthy. It's SO darn cold right now...which is unusual for so early....

Oops, here she is...

Hi guys! New member. I have 4 6-week-old chicks, my first ever. Two are Plymouths, one buff Orpington, and an Australorp. My father owns chickens down in Tennessee so he's a great resource for some things, but it's nice to have a wider community, especially for cold-weather concerns. As I write this, we've been experiencing single-digit temps with wind chills in the negative teens (UGH!) so I've had concerns. But there are lots of other things to learn too, so here I am.

Hey! I live in Wisconsin too! Yeah, I can't believe how cold it's been. Not cool.
Welcome to BYC! :D

Hello M-painter/ Wisconsiner(s)/BYC peeps,
I understand your concern(s) of the weather, so many questions...about it all.
I feel bad that this little group I have left are guinea pigs.
I am also in Wisconsin(northern closer to MN) first year with chickens, and nervous about winter cold. I didnt think I would be so attached to them.
Today was the first day I turned on heat, my non-chicken family said I shld turn it on. I really dont want them to rely on the heat, since our power seems to fail often. Just like you M-painter, I have a ton of questions. What type of coop do u have?
