When will you be getting new chickens? Do you know what kind of breeds you want next? I eventually want a more colorful flock. My neighbor has about 30 chickens and her flock is made up of different breeds...very colorful.

I plan on getting new baby chicks once I have my own place. However, if I found an old hen in need, I would take her in. All of the chickens that I have had have all been different breeds. I like having different breeds because I can tell them apart, and there is more variety in the flock.

Most of the chickens I had I got as chicks. I enjoyed watching them grow. I did take in two old hens a few years ago, and one did quite well.

What's your take on Rooster's? I did have a very aggressive one last year. He chased and pecked all of us. He wreaked havoc on my hens backs. We had him processed for dinner.

I have never had a rooster. I have a friend who has had both mean and nice roosters. I think a lot depends on how often they are handled and the aggressiveness of the breed.

Good point....I had an ISA brown. I got him as a chick and picked him up a lot. He was always really feisty. I am a little gun shy about getting another but I want a protector for my hens, we have had a den of fox out here for over a year now.

Here in Loudon, NH where the snow is super deep and my chickens are feeling VERY COOPED UP!! :-( Both I and my ladies are looking forward to spring. Welcome, this forum is AWESOME!
