Hello!! My husband and I have been trolling your site ever since we got our baby chicks back in February and finally decided to create our own account. I'm excited to be able to share and learn more from all of you!

We have 5 urban chickens in our surprisingly huge backyard (for the city), we live on Vancouver Island in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. My husband designed and built the most darling coop (octagon shape with green roof) and we are so crazy about our girls, they are almost 19 weeks old and haven't started laying yet.

Our funny girls are:
Gloria (aka Orpi) - Buff Orpington
Isabelle - Black Astrolorp
Big Betty - Light Brauma
Marion - Americauna
Gladys - Silver Laced Wyandotte

We are on the edge of our seat waiting for the first egg!! :D

Beautiful coop and lovely birds, too. Don't give up on the eggs yet! Mine usually started laying around 23 weeks, so you have a little way to go. I don't know what the average age for first eggs is, but you will be enjoying cackle berries before you know it!

Welcome to BYC, Ken and Sarah. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining.) You have a beautiful flock. Thanks for posting the pics. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock, so glad you joined us. What a beautiful coop, is you husband a carpenter ? You may be interested in posting at "Canadians - check -in -here." to find out what is going on around you - and hopefully make some chicken folk friends.

We got our first egg today about 30 min after I joined and posted my first message! ha! At 19 weeks our Americauna, Marion, layed a small light blue egg. It's perfect, we are proud parents :)

To Micheal Oshay - our Black Astrolorp is definitely the calmest of the bunch, very much a follower type.

To Drumstick Diva - no, Ken isn't a carpenter. He's an auto mechanic that happens to just be very creative and good at building things :)

Welcome to BYC and congratulations on getting that 1st egg!

Where do I find the "Canadian's check in here" forum? I scanned the site, can't find it :( Thanks!
