I give baths when necessary which isn't too often. My short coats will get a damp wash cloth wipe down occasionally which helps. Some get a bath once or twice a year. I used to bathe them more, but these always feel soft and clean, so generally it's after someone rolled in something nasty.

Yeah we always used to just bathe a few times a year growing up and that was with a double coated retrievers and retriever mix. It does have merit as well, bathe when dirty, but sometimes you can’t tell they’re dirty till mud falls off or they start smelling, especially with a black dog LOL since you can’t SEE the dirt LOL

And I always heard too often hurt their skin so I tried not to do it too often. Now IDK. How often is too often? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? Is it fine as long as they are properly dried between????? I want to buy some of the waterless shampoo or wipes but don’t want to spend more money plus would rather just get on a good regular bath schedule LOL

I’m wondering this, too! Just got a new toy poodle pup, sweetest thing, and I’m determined to learn how to groom her like a professional, at home, but I saw someone on some other site say that they bathe their white standard poodle two to three times a week! That can’t be right, right?

I used to bathe weekly and was fine, these days I'm busy so I just bathe when she's looking dingy. Usually once or twice a month

The more you bathe the more you strip the natural protective oil off the coat, and they need a bath more often. It isn't about being wet. That's why it's best done when they feel too oily. Every breed is different. Hounds are naturally more oily, and have an odor. Bulldog and Boston's are cleaner with no odor.

We wipe ours down when they are wet from outside and it helps to remove dirt.

Yeah that seems like way too much lol for a poodle I would say maybe 4-6 weeks.

Ah okay makes sense. Thanks!
