Ground vs Wire

Quote:
Hi Everyone...
I've got a few updated pics of some of the plants and logs I put back in. Still have lots to do, but may just cover it with tarps and plastic till after the holidays.

This is the revised safty porch... To the left is what I cut out and made bigger, then divided the porch. I can enter it, close door behind me then enter the aviary.

View into the 4' box, and I will be able to divide this and use it to hold new birds before merging them.

Long view looking towards the smaller box.. And you'll see I had supervision. What project is complete without it?

That is Bitsy, and down in the far end is her pup, Gabby...

This is the end where I opened up the porch into the main aviary. Planted mint, see how it seasons them.

O.K. That's it for now. I hope I didn't bore everyone... lol...

Looks great Critter! Love the cholla branches.

Just today I cut down a large dead cholla tree and put it in my aviary for more places to pile branches on for brush piles. We are on the same page today!!

Your quail are going to love your aviary!

Hi Everyone!
Thanks!!
I've really enjoyed getting this together again! I've missed not having birds outside. It will have Doves, keets, and finches later this spring. The cuts, scrapes, and sore back have been more than worth it. lol...

Twocrows~ I think we are on the same page quite a bit! lol... Cool you like the cholla too! I love it!! It's tough too , parakeets can chew it all day and not hurt it. The stuff is plentiful for us too!

You need to add pics of yours!

I have more to put in later for perches for the flying birds.

I've planted oat grass, wheat grass and millet and plain keet seed all over the place and around the logs, but I don't know how well it will do this late in the season, or if it will sprout. time will tell.

Come spring I will add a drip system and mist.
I hope to move 8 of the quail out next week! We had a bit of a cold snap this weekend, so I'm waiting a few days to see what the weather does.

Hello!
7L , I'm not sure I understand what you are saying? Could you explain a little more, or a picture. It's been a few days since you've posted it.

Seriously...
I'm not sure what you mean...would love to hear more!

Hi Quaillady....
Thanks! I can't wait to get the birds out! I'll get tarps and plastic this week. I have wheat grass, and oat grass sprouting. I hope the birdseed does too, but it's been a wet cold week, so don't know.
Rained all day yesterday!

I
can never figure this picture thing out but there it is above. HOPEFULLY!

I have done both wire and ground. Ground is more natural for the birds BUT, I like the wire for several reasons. 1) Sanitation 2) Raised enclosure off the ground safer from vermin and predators. The coyotes here like to dig, so the raised cage keeps them at bay more. 3) Cocci, as I have chickens (free rangers) and this keeps the element of Cocci far more manageable.
