Any local feed/farm supply should carry seed wheat. I wouldn't eat the sprouts myself, but it will work great for feeding your animals as long as it isn't treated with something.

Did you try your hot soapy water/bleach process on this mix?I've tried that. It works okay but if there's millet in it, the millet molds.
I would eat the wheat sprouts, they're perfectly fine, except they might break my teeth. As long as it isn't treated, it would be safe for human consumption too.Any local feed/farm supply should carry seed wheat. I also want to try fermented feed.Update on my wheat, they are sprouting and so far so goodSince food stuff prices are going to increase for humans and animals because of last years drought, I really appreciate all of you here and your contributions. Thank you for letting me know about what you put in for meat. It was funny to me to read about picking up mackeral, i had just purchased a can .. then you post it
I will post pictures soon of my set up soon
I don't know if we do, but I'll definately check!I went to a "feed and seed" store (like farm and garden type) and got seed wheat--50lbs for $16. It's dirtier, not good for grinding/baking. But I rinse, soak 24 hours with a TBSP of bleach, and off we go. It works great and I plan to get another 50lbs when this runs out. The girls love it. I feed both that and fermented feed daily. My fermented feed consists of half layer pellets and half scratch. It bubbles when I stir it up, but I don't keep it very soupy and I don't drain it. I have it in a bucket by the furnace so when I take it out to them it's nice and warm. This morning it was -20F and I half expected them to crawl into their breakfast and warm up! But they just gulped it down happily. I don't know how they stay warm but they sure do. Then I look outside at the chickadees flying around and they're even smaller than chickens. Amazing. I'm so thankful for a warm house.
26# for $13 isn't a bad price--I'm just thinking it's a higher food-grade than you need for your chickens. It's about fifty cents/pound. If you have a farm and garden or feed & seed store nearby, see what they have.
