growing grains

I had Pigeons in a hutch and accidently started growing milo a few years ago, I've seen a product called proso supposed to be really good for poultry, I looked it up and it's acctually called broom corn a millet similar to milo. I think a couple hatcherys carry it (mcmurry for sure) and you could probably find it through seed company's on line. I think it's ment to be a free range food plot type crop the birds can take as they please.

What you are looking for is heirloom or open pollinated corn. I did a google search for heirloom corn and the first link had many different varieties. All of these varieties will allow you to save seed for the next year. I am not sure which one is best for chicken feed. Maybe someone else could comment on that. Or you could google something like "heirloom corn for chicken feed". Let me know what you find out
