growth on peachick eye pic.

My Bantam hen is having the same problem, this is probably day number 3, since I've noticed it. I cannot tell if it is healing or not.

Have you found a solution yet? Is there something wrong with feeding them tomatoes? I read that and wasn't sure what to think?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, they had dry pox. I lost 10 peachicks hatched this year from it. Separate you rooster if you can. Watch your flock. There is a fowl pox vaccination but I found out too late. It went through the chicken flock, b/c it is spread by mosquito's, and we live on the swamp. Brilliant of us not to have known about fowl pox huh? We only lost 2 chickens, 1 I am not even sure due to the pox. The mortality rate on peas is much higher though. We have 4 left that were outside. 5 more hatched but we took them in right away. Also your egg production will decrease, dramatically! We went from sometimes 29 to 32 a day all the way to 5 a day. We got 18 yesterday. So it is working it's way out. After they are infected the best you can do is treat the sores with a topical antibiotic. We used Wal Marts brand. Some may argue about that but that's what we did. Some of the growths were so big they made the eye swell shut. After loosing 3 that way, we put the last one down. It was awful. You can treat 1000 birds with the vaccine and you can order it from Stromberg's, I am sure other places as well. It only cost $18.50 and that really is a great price vs. the deaths and suffering that happens to your flocks. There are sites on the internet that tell you exactly where to prick them with a two pronged vaccination needle. It has to go all the way through, Check after 7 days, I think7, and if there is a bump, mark or some sort, the vaccination worked. If not it didn't take and you must do those birds again. It is a live culture. That is why you will see a reaction if the vaccine took. If you have lots of mosquito's, I suggest you vaccinate. It may be too late for you flock this year. Also they have to be 6 WEEKS! Dang that really sucks too, by the way. This is why, yes I should have known, you should hatch in early spring and fall. Hindsight's 20/20. Hopefully you and others will be able to learn from my mistake. Oh give them electrolytes while it is running through your flock. I couldn't find any at TSC, of course at the time, so I gave them children's pedialyte. TSC store here has them now and I bought enough for anytime my flocks get stressed again. I hope I didn't forget anything and good luck with your roo, and I pray it does not spread through your flock. If they get sores in mouth, that is wet pox. Bad, high mortality rate.

Oh you can give your birds tomato's, just slice them so they don't get acid burns on there heads from sticking them into the soft part of the tomato.
