We are first time hatchers and decided (to keep kids interested in process/care) we'd record the weight of our chicks to see how much they grow. For anyone who is interested this is quite astounding info....I recorded weight in grams as it gives more precision. Just using my kitchen scales

We hatched a dozen jumbo eggs and got 4 chicks who are now 2 weeks old. They ate 1lb of Starter feed in that time.

They weighed 7g, 10g, 11g and 12g @ 2 days old. (which is about 1/2 oz)
They weighed 22g, 28g, 30g and 31g @ 7 days ( they almost triple their weight in a week!)
They weighed 61g, 65g, 74g and 75g @ 14 days (the smaller is almost 9x, and the larger is 7x original weight) (approx 2 1/2 oz)

Thank goodness my kids don't grow this fast!!!

I've been weighing my birds on and off, but you know what I forgot? I forgot to weigh the darned things when they hatched. Not that I would have been able to tell them apart, but still, I could have weighed them and had an average or something.

BTW, mine are at 6oz at 6 weeks.

They were 5oz at 5 weeks. I did mine in grams, but don't feel like getting my paperwork out. Lazy me, haven't had my coffee yet.

Just weighing them for fun, and because we only have 4 birds ATM. Not sure I'll be able to do that with the next lot (31 in the bator) as you said too hard to tell them apart. Be interesting to see if the rate of growth slows down as they approach maturity. Anyone know what is 'normal' for full grown coturnix (not certain these are going to be jumbo, maybe just regular browns, as the first batch of eggs were definitely smaller than the larger ones I was given in my latest batch [which are supposed to be from jumbos also]).

I was joking around about mine, they are like that spray foam that comes in a can, add air and they expand! You can pretty much stand there and watch them grow.

3 weeks old today and so I thought I'd update....

they ate another pound of feed in the last week.

They weigh 109g, 109g, 123g and 131g @ 21 days (that's 4oz - 4 1/2 ozs)

Looks like we've only got one girl in the bunch, but I'm not certain yet. They are all much less cuddly now they are getting bigger. They all used to hop onto my hand.... now they run and try to hide...but they stand still on my hand once I've got hold of them
