Hello,

I was wondering about the legistics of having geese with my 4 backyard chickens. My question is will one or both of the geese try to protect my chickens even though they didn't all grow up together.

I have a couple bantam's (ones a rooster shhh don't tell county), a couple full sized, all are fully grown and if I were to get geese (I read it's mean to only have one) if I introduced the geese when they were babies would they integrate with the chickens and protect them?

You can have only one goose. It is advised that you get it as a gosling so that it sees the chickens as family. Some will sound the alarm only but only that. Others will attack. Research breeds to find what suits you.

It's really a myth, they might sound an alarm but that's about it.

Agreed geese can't really do crap against a predator besides sound a alarm, they could maybe fight a hawk but that's really the only predator they could do anything too, anything larger like a coyote or dog and there really in a pickle, heck even a raccoon.

(I don't have geese but I've done some research on the topic)
