We rescued a Goose 3yr ago that lost his.mate.and 2 gosling and was injured badly while fighting for them to a coyote. He moved in with our Ducks and chickens and did well as our guardian. Recently, we were attacked by a skunk family,.and they took out 19 of 25 chickens. We have 5 hens, 1 Rooster and Zeus. He is now blind in 1 eye, and is agitated alot and "barks", alot. He is now about 6yr, we would like to help him settle into retirement, we don't want to cull. Would he take a mate.or another male as a companion, they could live separately. Also thinking of a rescue, but would that just be another trauma? Any ideas would help.

He’ll bond with any goose you get for him, male or female. Considering his trauma I would look for a female or gosling(s) of either gender he can raise so that he doesn’t have to squabble with a gander that has dominance issues. Ganders can get along very well with each other, but some ganders can be spicier than others, and considering that yours is 6 he might need a very calm older male companion like him, not a young 2 year old hot head. They’ll bond even then eventually, but it might be tense for the first week or two.
