most times I relocate them to the canadian fur auctions this time of the year I feed the possums with the remains it keeps the preds at the bait piles and away from my birds pens

I have an elevated pen.. It is up on 2X4's. I know it isn't impossible for a black snake to climb it, but it is unlikely.

We did has a 6 footer come to visit us each year.. We've not seen him for about 2, I'm afraid a neighbor got him. We also found a ring neck snake and a 2 or 3 foot garter snake.. So they're around, but they haven't bothered my birds

Hey, sometimes they swallow thier prey without killing them first, id kill it and see if just maybe....You got a survivor. OR let your chickens have at it, i know my ducks like garter snakes

well i relocated the snake to the river ,definitely far enough away that i shouldn't see him again.
that's the first snake we've seen in the neighborhood in about 15 years . it only got into the pen b/c i didn't close the door to the cage quite right and there was a small gap .he was slim enough to get in but to fat to get back out ...
i just CAN'T kill a healthy living creature for doing what the good Lord created it to do.

There are WAY too many predators. They are thriving in urban areas and becoming a nuisance. Relocating them is pretty much killing them because they are in a completely different environment. Plus it is handing your problem off to someone else. I have a huge problem, every time I put a new pen out a raccoon comes. I either shoot them with 22 shorts.

Although i LITERALLY live in the city ,i live 3 blocks from the Potomac river and a substantial area of woodlands with all kinds of wildlife there.from bald eagles and herons to beaver, river otter, deer, bear ,coons ,possum and plenty of snakes . Everything thrives there. i am not relocating to a populated area and passing my "problem" off to someone else.
i'm sorry but i don't believe in taking a life simply b/c it's inconveniencing me. Yes i am sad that i lost some birds but i get it too...the snake is just doing it's snake thing. i'd MUCH prefer it to eat other wild things but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.....
