Guinea Are Evil! -- confirmed!

I do not know what to tell ya. Since my last post on this thread I have introduced at least 12 new Guinea fowl to the flock.

I fact, I have not introduced ONE hen, only the GUineas.

I have noticed that the "Goonies" like to hang with each other now and I have about a 12 bird group that goes all over the property.

At night they are in the barn and roosting peacefully with the chickens.

They eat, sleep, drink and free range very well together.

Sorry you are going through that. I'm surprised you're having so much trouble but maybe it's because your guinea flock is so small?

I've got 12 guineas and 9 grown chickens, which are at least twice the size of the guineas. They have separate coops but all free range in the same area. The chickens run the guineas around a little occasionally. The guineas mostly just stay out of the way.

They can be very entertaining and I'm sorry your experience wasn't so greatl

My Guineas are good with the chickens but sometimes they attack my male ducks. They ALWAYS want control, they think their the boss. I have a pair of Pearls and hopefully soon I'll have some Coral Blue ones too.

Our male guinea attacked our drake, and put a real hurting on him. He tried to go after our rooster once, but I do believe the bully was scared of the roo!

My guineas are also evil!!! How on earth did you get someone to be interested in them for something other than dinner?! I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not a saleswoman. My pitch is seriously lacking...or perhaps just a little too honest.

I've had my guineas since they were 5 days old. We got our chickens (hens) about a month and a half later. Everyone got along fine until about 3 weeks ago when the guineas started chasing and beating up my poor chickens on a regular basis. Two of the chickens even went to roosting a tree at night to avoid getting attacked when they tried to get in the coop at night. Once I saw it happen, the guineas got booted out of the coop and now roost happily on the coop roof. That solved the nighttime issue, but they'll still attack the hens when I let them out of the coop in the morning or if they're all in the pen together during the day. It's not like we have a small pen either, it's literally at least 10,000 square feet of fenced area around the coop. The chickens usually just leave the pen during the day. The guineas never leave on purpose, occasionally they'll have a wing flapping freak out and accidentally fly over the fence. Then they'll buckwheat and buckwheat until they figure out how to get back in. All the while sticking their heads through the fence and running as fast as their little legs and move...not getting anywhere though since their body isn't going to fit through the fence.

Yesterday I saw the whole gang of guineas (2 males 5 females) attacking, possibly attempting to molest, one of the poor chickens. I'm very tempted to offer these beastly birds to anyone who's interested in guinea for Thanksgiving dinner.

When I got my first guineas -- adults that were given to me FREE -- I saw the guy's roosters that had their tails ripped out by the guineas. Owner said that he thought 11 guinea were too many and gave me 7, which I shared with 2 friends. I wonder if his remaining 5 were still a problem.

My one friend still has a pair of those guineas that do fine for her, but they really can't get to any other poultry.

I am so thankful I don't like everything that comes my way. I had so far! Highland steer, sheep (any kind), dairy goats, angoras are okay, chickens (love them), rabbits are great dogs, cats, fish and now turkeys. But my neighbor had some guineas stop at his house and I am so thankful they decided not to live with me when he tried to shoo them over.

They weren't nasty to my chickens but they are so noisy!

Everyone complains about the noise they make, but mine have gotten so quiet that it concerns me more. What are they up to? whose yard are they in?

Yesterday, I was worried if I even had guineas anymore because most of the day I don't see them or hear them. Then I can home in the late afternoon and they were on the front door step. I know their up to mischief somewhere.

Sometimes I wonder if ours are chasing after the chickens because they're trying to be mean, or if they're just so dumb that they get scared and don't know who to go after. One flew up onto the roof yesterday trying to get away from the puppy...ran around on the roof for a while, then jumped off the roof right into the dog's pen...right back to the puppy. Guinea ended up back with the flock, no injuries, just scared and buckwheating away.

We have 8 guineas Three royal purple, four coral blue and one opaline. I have no idea if they are boys or girls though most are almost full grown. Seems like they all say buckwheat but I saw one of blues mating with a hen so I am guessing that one was a boy. Our roosters also mate with the guinea's I am just praying next year we don't end up with crosses those are some UGLY fowl. I love the noises they make and have seen them scare off hawks and bald eagles with there shrill calls. We have not lost one chicken to chicken hawks since we turned the guinea's loose. They do occasionally run off the meeker chickens but have never seen them actually hurt one.
I enjoy them and are sorry you had such an awful experience with them.
