If you think the crack is from the shipping and you have some Elmer's Glue... put a thin layer over the crack to seal it. I have glued small cracks in eggs before and the eggs have hatched just fine

Yeah I decided to patch it last night to play it safe. I'm just soo happy I decided to hold off on these eggies til after the hurricane! I can't imagine what my heart rate would have been if I had already had them in the incubator when it came through

So now my waiting game begins.... with numerous longing looks through the 'bator windows.

I even caught my mister checking on them

It always helps to have a co-dependent right there with ya for your new found obsession

Good luck... I usually candle the first time at 7 days... but I've candled thousands of eggs so I'm pretty good at seeing/noticing even the slightest development (even as early as 5 days, because I am so impatient lol)

You may not see an actual embryo or veins developing that soon, but a fertile egg will have a reddish tint (and very obvious air cell with no color at all).

Good luck, hope your first candling is a promising one!

hahaha i know! im an impatient momma too...... these are always the times where patience is tested

that or where i retrace my pacing lines hehehe...ive hatched chickys before but these are my first guines so my excitment level is even more this time around! i had to giggle on the co-dependent thing..... he would just always laugh and shake his head at me.... but more and more i see him catching the bug too... though hes too proud to admit it ;-) soooooon enough! *evil cackle* hope youre having a great day today!!

Just wait til he sees those lil baby developing keets moving around in the egg when you candle them at different stages, he'll melt like butter and be hooked

I AM HAVING A GREAT DAY!!! I just sold a dozen of my pretty Pieds to a wonderful couple that has 40 acres, and they were very excited to finally get some Guineas!

You sold them adults or keets?

They were all between 3-4 months old. A lot of people in this area prefer older birds... less work for them and they are that much closer to being out rangin' for ticks, snakes and other pests. I sell all ages tho, just depends on what people want. And come tick season I never have enough adults to go around, usually that's the time of year everybody's callin' flippin' out cuz they had a tick on them, lol.
