New to guinea fowl. We have 11 beautiful guinea's that are 3 months old. Have not let them free range as of yet. What if they don't come back into their coop area?

When you first let them out, stay there and monitor them. Do not leave them out for a real long time and then herd them back into their coop or use treats to lure them back. The herding can be facilitated by using long sticks to extend the reach of your arms. Go slowly and keep them heading towards the coop.

Repeat daily, gradually increasing the length of time they are out.

Another option is to only release a few at a time using the captive ones as bait to lure the others back.

Good luck.

It's always a bit nerve wracking when they first start to free range. You've had them in their coop for a good long time, so it's VERY likely they will return to their safe spot. Don't be surprised if they don't want to leave at first. And they may be skiddish about going back into the coop - it's something new - going in and out of the coop. They will tend to keep close to the coop at first and then will gradually expand their territory. I would echo eveything R2elk mentioned above.

Keep us posted and good luck! Welcome to BYC! :welcome
