Hello , we are trying to get the toe of our french Guinea hen to heal .
It was noticed a few days ago (or maybe a week ? ) , and was at that time around 4 times original size . Also a scab was present . The toe was fairly soft at first , then turned more firm . There was pain at that time . We have since soaked the foot in warm water (epsom salts were added ) , and removed the scab . Nothing but some blood would come out .
We weren't sure if we should squeeze on it , so we put some neosporin on it and bandaged it up , and gave her some pen.. Also we put her in a clean cage to keep the open wound clean.
It has been a couple of days now . I thought at first the toe was shrinking , but it's not .
There dose not seem to be pain any longer .
The scab has reformed and we we not sure if it should be reopened .
We were hoping to get the toe down to a more normal size .
Poultry first aid is not new to us , but feet and toes can be a challenge .
Any advice or ideas on this matter ? Thank you
