Hello , we are trying to get the toe of our french Guinea hen to heal .
It was noticed a few days ago (or maybe a week ? ) , and was at that time around 4 times original size . Also a scab was present . The toe was fairly soft at first , then turned more firm . There was pain at that time . We have since soaked the foot in warm water (epsom salts were added ) , and removed the scab . Nothing but some blood would come out .
We weren't sure if we should squeeze on it , so we put some neosporin on it and bandaged it up , and gave her some pen.. Also we put her in a clean cage to keep the open wound clean.
It has been a couple of days now . I thought at first the toe was shrinking , but it's not .
There dose not seem to be pain any longer .
The scab has reformed and we we not sure if it should be reopened .
We were hoping to get the toe down to a more normal size .
Poultry first aid is not new to us , but feet and toes can be a challenge .
Any advice or ideas on this matter ? Thank you

I forgot to mention that when we removed the scab the first time , it created a rather deep hole.

If you have not done so already check on the forum for Bumble foot and Bumble foot surgery. I have treated on case on a chicken where I opened the spot and cleaned it well and soaked it in Peroxide, then bandaged with mycitracin. It worked. But there are many others on here with more experience than myself. Good luck and keep us posted.
