I haven't been brave enough to brood them outside in this weather yet. I usually can't wait to get them out of the house by week 3 thoughWith birds, everything is a learning experience. You've got it now, that's what matters.
I do find the plastic bottom is great at keeping the chicks warm, I use mine outside in an uninsulated shed and it's been below freezing the last week. The plastic bottom reduces any form of drafts and is so easy to clean. Definitely my favourite too!

That is a hugeeee enclosure, and three lamps! lucky babies(Self-made curtains to keep nosey dogs away)

I have two cats, but I've had so many broods my cats couldn't care less XD
