Guineas Eggs - again

Wow! First time for me and guineas. Don't know what I did, just stuck 5 guinea eggs in a crappy old styro bator, 5 in, 5 out, no problems, they were early, 2 hatched in the turner, couldn't even tell you what the humidity was. It's always a fight in that thing but it hatches great...

You know, ITA. I thought I screwed up so bad with these guinea eggs. I had power outages and temp spikes... But they incubated fine. The hatching was atrocious though. The shells were so thick, they'd pip, sit for 12 hours and dry out. After seeing the first pip not progress for 12+ hours, I opened the shell and wet the membrane. Did that to all 7 guineas with pips. The last one, I didn't notice had a very very tiny pip. It suffocated because it couldn't pip any further. Out of 8, I had 7 hatch.
Now at 2.5 weeks old, I've lost one stray to the dog, but the other 6 are alive and well.
I have one runt. It's half the size of the others and has a heck of a time trying to jump into the pop door without the gangplank.

Good luck with those other eggs. I hope they did or will hatch for you.

I have set a batch every two weeks for the next few weeks. LOL

The bator is full of nearly every egg the hen(s) has/have laid.

I'll have guineas hatching from now to the end of the month. They are as stressful to me as goose eggs. Completely unpredictable!

missprissy,,,,you "get ready" with guineas the same as chickens right?, 24 hours without food, butchered, let sit for 24 hours,,then dinner table?
i just got 1 of mine separated for the "deed"
im kinda excited,,, never had guinea hehe

24 hours without food - they will eat bedding so put them in a kennel if you can.

24 hours relaxing in the fridge - you can brine if you want.

Slow roasted, young and tender. You might try one of those brown in the bag baking bags.

YUMMY!

You want to season it. Just like roasted chicken. Salt, pepper, garlic, parsley etc, rubbed into the skin with butter. MMMMmmmmm. Crispy skin.
