right now am setting up (maybe that is the wrong term) a raccoon hunting gun.

am using a marlin 795, and put a old style Bushnell scope on it. (its the custom line from the late 60's early 70's from what i can tell. got it from my grandpa who disliked it compared to modern scopes he has gotten over the years) and 3-7 power.

am planning on using a game caller and trying to call during the day. saw lots of videos and read a few articles on it, seems like lots of fun as they come in fast and mean (which is why am using my semi-auto .22)

how was everyone else's season? always like to hear how others made out and what your shooting with.

Our only take this year (so far) was an 8-point. Hubby, our neighbor and I went out one evening. I was closest to our house, up in a tree stand with my .243 when I hear my dog come blasting thru the brush. Somehow he had gotten out of my yard. So I climbed down to take him home. Was sitting on the back porch when a big buck went strolling thru the woods between me and my other neighbor. Toward my husband. Texted hubby that one was headed his direction. I grabbed the rifle and tried to follow, but the buck made it over to hubby before I could spot it again. So he took it down.
I hope to go out with the bow this weekend, our rifle season is done, but archery runs thru the end of the year.

I didn't hunt much this yr. Too much going on with the house reno. The only time I went out with the bow, I took a coyote that made the mistake of getting too close.

Rifle season I had several smaller bucks bucks within range, but decided not to shoot.

It's will be the first time in 40 yrs that I haven't filled a single tag.

sorry forget to reply lol.

nice deer.

right now am already starting to plan for spring bear hunting, hoping to go up north to our land and do some rabbit and coyote hunting. while getting stuff ready for bear season. in the next month or so. (bear starts about mid April here) might get a wolf tag maybe.

but the bears are getting really populated here, so much that my province is thinking of allowing us to take or get two bear tags in certain zones. (my zone is deemed forest so no second tag)

am addicted to hunting, lol

Someone on this forum suggested a Chiappa Little Badger. I think that would be the perfect little rifle for me. If I need to shoot a raccoon it is usually before sun up and the little badger has rails to mount lights and other accessories. It is also a bolt action so rat shot, shorts or subsonics will work fine in it.
