this coming Sunday is the opening of our regular elk season.

my zone am hunting only allows bulls so am hoping a legal one shows up (has to be 6 inches or bigger) but very exciting this is my second elk hunt (first time i never saw one) but lets hope this time is different.

I love elk meat.

i see your from Florida, but i have had one of the best elk burgers in my life down there. (forget the where the restaurant name). which i found kinda funny, that it was available down there, yet i think i have been to one restaurant up here that has served elk burgers.

sorry for the lame story.

but am packing my .30-30 for this hunt.

Heres my little 270 hunting rifle and 500 yard gun. It's got a few odds and ends best thing yet so far was reworking the trigger its at a comfortable 2lbs.
243 and 270, my favorite choices for whitetail!

all ive got is a 22 but ive shot many different guns before. do you all think that a 308 win would be a good idea?

For whitetail? If so, yes. It’s a very good caliber to have. Plenty of rifles to choose from to fit your budget. Ammo is easy to find an inexpensive compared to the “topic of the day” calibers. It doesn’t kick like a mule like the magnums either.
