Gun Laws in YOUR State

Hopefully to clarify what Egghead said about the gun laws in NH, he is correct in all respects and NH has one of the most liberal gun laws in the USA. However, you do need a permit to carry a loaded gun concealed. You do not need a permit to carry a loaded gun that is NOT concealed. Otherwise, no permits or permission necessary for any other purpose in NH

New Jersey makes it pretty much impossible to own and carry hand guns. They limit it to cops and military or ex-military. I think every so often you need to be re-certed for a hand gun, but I could be wrong. My dad retired from the police force a couple of years ago and I know he's been saying he needs to go in and get an updated license.

Rifles permits are quite a pain too. You need to fill out a pretty big application, get finger printed, and then they conduct a background check. This is all through the police station. That's just for the general permit to own. To purchase each individual gun, you need to fill out another application at the store or dealer and wait for that background check to clear. Then, and only then, can you finally take your gun home.

It's pretty ridiculous and expensive here. That's part of the reason I keep putting it off!

I just wanted to add, that there really aren't any laws about letting someone else use your gun. I can go to a gun range with my dad's gun even if I don't have a permit. It's funny that all the hoops are for purchasing only!

In Oregon CandC is 50.00 and the class is usually 50.00 or so. Some classes are free if you buy the gun at the right store.

It is also legal to carry a gun concealed in your vehicle but not person if you are going hunting, just say you are going hunting.

The laws have really been changed when the SC decided that the 2nd was a personal right, only took them 230 some years.

And thats why your state made it that way... they figure the more pita it is for the citizens to arm themselves, the less that will do it! I'm glad MI is the way it is... or I may have to move!!

I'm pretty sure military folks have to follow the same rules as everybody else as far as purchasing and carrying personal firearms.

Similar, but apparently to get the required permits is slightly easier. Least that's what I've been told. I don't know, I don't purchase or carry anything.

For my husband its pretty easy. He just goes to the PX or Walmart to see what he wants and he can buy it. He even is allowed to buy the ammo the same day. Then he has to go to a office here in Ft Riley to register the gun and thats it. We have two Hipoints (45 and a .380) a Judge Public Defender, which shoots shotgun shells and regular revolver rounds and a hunting rifle. Yes they are all stored safely , each in their own locked gun case and the ammo stored seperately. BTW my husband is military and we live in Kansas, he will do his concealed carry class soon.
