Gun Laws in YOUR State

Here you have to get a "Handgun Safety Certificate" before you buy a handgun, but not required for Long guns. a background check and a 10 day waiting period is required for ANY firearm.

it's easy here in Texas.. the only thing they do is make a phone call when you buy the gun.. you get approval and pay for it and it's yours.. the only license needed is to carry a handgun (concealed weapon permit).
My husband gets a discount on the permit since he's military.. I have to pay full price

we'll be applying for ours later this year or early next year

dont need a permit to carry in SC. Need a permit for concealed weapon,so I just holster my gun on my right hip Wild Bill style.

One thing that doesn't vary from state to state is the need to fill out a form 4473. this is the record that the dealer keeps.

In Illinois I had to have a Firearms Ownership ID card to buy guns or ammunition. There was a 3 day waiting period for handguns and 1 day for long guns.

I moved to Tennessee and there is no waiting. They do a NICS check and once approved you're good to go.

We do have a concealed carry permit to carry concealed however it is legal to open carry in most places.

Even with the permit requirement Tennessee rocks!

Please excuse me for asking this as I am an aussie and our gun laws etc are totally different here. Do you guys carry hand guns for safety or just cause you can? I think I would be totally freaked out if i lived somewhere I needed to carry a gun on me for safety.

Not that I think I need a gun to be safe every time I go out, the point is safety. Also a right that is not being used will be lost. Didn't y'all use to have the right to carry an now dont?

A armed community make robbery a dangerous occupation. Disarmed community makes robbery safer for robbers an make crime go up. Bad guys like going places that they are less likely to get shot.

In the 7 years I have been carrying I have put down several animals that had been injured, one attacking a person an ran off a man with bad intentions for a young store clerk.

It's our right so the choice is your own. I carry everyday, everywhere. You can't plan when it's going to hit the fan. I don't freak out at all- I'm protected, as is my family.

big dogs, like Pit bulls were useless in Youngstown, people werent scared of them. HOWEVER for some reason teen were terrified of three hissing muscovy ducks in the backyard.

Most pitties aren't large dogs, and most pitties aren't good protection dogs anyway. Never met anyone who wasn't intimidated by my GSD though. Even in rougher areas of WA like Tacoma and West Seattle.

We also have two guns. A rifle and a hand-gun, not sure of the calibur on the handgun. The rifle was easy-peasy to get, just went into the gun store, signed some paperwork, they ran a quickie background check and we left that day with gun and ammo.

Here in Al. You fill out the form, a NICS is run, you pay and walk out, long gun or hand gun. CCP are up to the sheriff in each county. I walk in and within 15 minutes both my husband and I walk out with our permits, no classes required. I might add the sheriff graduated with my mother so it's not like I don't know him.

You do not need a CCP to carry in your car as your car is considered a extension of your home.

Now is you want a suppressed gun it is a whole new ballgame. Bought two of those while living in GA. had to get permission to move them to AL plus notify the local law enforcements. But they sure are fun to shoot if you don't want to wear hearing protection

edited to add I have no idea as to how many guns are in my home so we have done this quite a few times. We have everything from total custom 1911 to 22's and all sorts of long guns.
