Anyone else raise guinea pigs? I bought some at an auction yesterday. The picture is of the 5 frmales I got. I have had them before and absoultely love them. I also have a trio of mice. Any mousers out there?

I have guinea pigs and rats. I don't breed my pigs, I have four females and two males (separate cages) and eight or so rats, I do breed them.

We currently have one guinea pig, Shadow. He's a lot of fun, but is quite greedy with the kibbles. I would love to have more, but right now we're over-run with button quail, and I have no where to put a pig. One day....

I have 4 cavies ... 2 boys and 2 girls. They are housed separately since I don't plan to breed them ... at least not yet. I built the boys a big multi-level cage because they love hopping from level to level. The girls have to wait for a bigger cage until the new chicken coops and runs are finished. I have plans to build an outdoor playground/obstacle course for them next spring. We got the girls from a family who didn't like all the noise they make ... I love being greeting each morning by their "Reet Reet".

First off, I love your screen name! Secondly, Shadow is mostly my son's pig, but we all keep an eye on him. He lives out in our living room, and as soon as he hears ds' door open, he starts weeping. It's really cute. Shadow isn't as vocal as some pigs can be. He does holler for his food, but not at the decibels I know pigs can reach. I'm not complaining now, either.

How cute! Guinea pigs are great little animals. I love the squeaks they make. Back a few years ago I raised them briefly. The past several years I raised hamsters for a pet store but recently gave them all to a breeder in GA. I've been thinking about getting a few guinea pigs again since they can live outside in the rabbitry. The tricolors are my favs!

We have raised some...not exactly voluntarily...

...I bought a beautiful "male" GP from Meijer...uh, and guess what. Don't know if our confirmed male was the dad, or if "he" (she) was pregnant when we got her, but regardless...she had five babies. One was born dead, we were able to find homes for two, and of course my kids wanted to keep two. It was a fun experience, though. GP population was reduced by one a few years ago, but we still have the three left...two females and a male. Too bad my DD's don't have more time for them, now...
