Hi guys new duck keeper here.

not sure how old they are but the drake is just getting his green head feathers

Do you guys think roen or mallard?

They are quite pale in color

Also would they be ok to be put in the pond yet?

Nope, those are Silver Appleyards. They are easily confused with Snowy Mallards because they look so similar. Should be fine to be let onto the pond now.

That's Good News, because The Livestock Conservancy (www.livestockconservancy.org) lists Silver Appleyards as a threatened Heritage Breed. Here's their definition of "Threatened:"

Threatened: Fewer than 1,000 breeding birds in the United States, with seven or fewer primary breeding flocks, and estimated global population less than 5,000.

Looks like your "Mallards" turned out to be real treasures!
